Congratulations to PhD student Enrique Sanchez who was awarded the best poster presentation prize at the recent 7th Chemical Nanoscience Symposium in Newcastle (CNSN-7). The meeting also saw our collaborator Dr Gemma-Louise Davies take home a prize for best talk by an early career researcher. Congratulations!
Congratulations to Josefa!
Huge congratulations to Josefa who has successfully completed her PhD viva! Josefa will shortly be leaving us to take up a postdoctoral position at the EMPA, Switzerland. Though we will miss her, we all wish Josefa the very best with her new job. Congratulations Dr Vidal Laveda!
Microwave approaches to doped solid electrolytes for all solid state batteries
Congratulations to Marco whose invited contribution to the Journal of the Electrochemical Society for their special issue on IMLB 2016 has been published: Synthesis and Ionic Conductivity Studies of In- and Y-Doped Li6Hf2O7 as Solid-State Electrolyte for All-Solid State Li-Ion Batteries
Serena presents at the Mary Rose
Serena traveled to the Mary Rose to give a public lecture on our groups conservation efforts using magnetic nanoparticles to treat waterlogged wood samples. Our work is funded by the Leverhulme Trust, in collaboration with researchers at Warwick University and the Mary Rose. This meeting was a great opportunity to hear about the various conservation strategies… Continue reading Serena presents at the Mary Rose
A new, facile hybrid sol–gel solid-state approach to garnet materials
Our first paper of 2017 has appeared! Congratulations to Hany, whose work on a new synthetic route to Al-doped garnets has been published as open access in the Journal of Materials Chemistry A: Low-temperature densification of Al-doped Li7La3Zr2O12: a reliable and controllable synthesis of fast-ion conducting garnets
Congratulations to Tom!
Congratulations to Tom on passing his PhD viva! Since completing his PhD research with us at Glasgow, Tom went on to work as a postdoc with Prof Jawwad Darr at UCL on sodium ion batteries. Congratulations Dr Ashton!
Serena appointed to EPSRC Energy SAC
Serena has been appointed to the EPSRC Energy Strategic Advisory Committee from 2017. The EPSRC advisory teams contribute to the development of the EPSRC future strategy and Serena will hold this post for 3 years.
Multifunctional magnetic nanocomposites for imaging applications
Congratulations to Marc, Enrique and Esther whose work on the microwave-assisted synthesis of highly crystalline iron oxide nanoparticles for magnetic resonance and optical imaging has been accepted for publication in RSC Advances: Microwave-assisted synthesis of highly crystalline, multifunctional iron oxide nanocomposites for imaging applications
Serena promoted to Reader
Serena has been promoted to Reader in Physical Chemistry from August 1st. Thanks to all members of our research group for their hard work. The group have had a busy year with many interesting results and we have even more exciting times ahead!
Congratulations to Beth!
Congratulations to Beth Johnston, our undergraduate research project student, who has obtained a first class degree in Chemical Physics! Beth has also received a prestigious Carnegie PhD scholarship and she will be returning to our group in October to start her PhD. Congratulations Beth!!
